A Glimmer of Hope helps lifts women and children out of extreme poverty in rural Ethiopia. Using an entrepreneurial model it provides clean water, schools, health clinics and micro-finance loans, one village at a time. 100% of all donations go directly to funding projects. Glimmer’s endowment covers all its operating expenses and even replaces credit card transaction fees. Every dollar donated through Glimmer reaches the people in need. Over the last 10 years, Glimmer has completed more than 5000 projects and improved 2.4 million lives.
Their model focuses on four areas of development: water, health, education, and micro-finance. With more than a decade on the ground in rural Ethiopia, their experience and the knowledge gained from indigenous development organisations has shown them that the integration of these four sectors provides those living in extreme poverty with the best chance of improving their lives. Accountability
They don’t think it’s enough to merely promise 100% of donations will get to the field. They follow up that promise with proof. They actually show all of their donors how their money is spent and where it went. They prove it with progress reports from every village which provide visual and text updates on their work in the field. Completion photos show every project that they construct in every village where they work. They provide GPS coordinates for every project, allowing donors to view the actual projects through Google Maps.
